Sweet Potato Soup with Chili and Orange

Smooth, delicious, and slightly spicy. This soup has everything you could ask for in the perfect autumn recipe. Something that can keep you warm and healthy as the days grow colder.


Sweet potato soup


  • 400 g sweet potato, chopped

  • Olive oil

  • 2 big onions, chopped 

  • 2-3 cloves garlic, minced 

  • 2 tsp. red curry paste

  • 1-2 tsp. ginger paste

  • ¼-½ red chili (optional, if you like it spicy)  

  • 750 ml. water

  • 1 vegetable broth cube 

  • 1 small apple, chopped

  • 1 dl orange juice 

  • Some dried thyme 

  • Salt & Pepper

  • Fresh basil, parsley or other herbs

  • Pumpkin seeds

How to make it

  1. Put some olive oil in a big pot, over medium heat

  2. Add chopped sweet potatoes, onion and garlic, and sauté for 8 minutes

  3. Stir in red curry paste, ginger paste, red chili and chopped apple

  4. Add water and vegetable broth

  5. Let it simmer for about 15-20 minutes, until the sweet potatoes are very soft 

  6. Now you need to blend the soup – in a blender or blend the soup directly in the pot with a hand blender. Blend until it’s smooth 

  7. Put the soup back into the pot and heat again

  8.  Add orange juice, thyme, salt and pepper 

  9. Taste and adjust the seasoning with more spices if you want

  10. Serve and top with fresh herbs and pumpkin seeds

  11. Enjoy!
